At Hajime Karate, we specialise in embroidered belts for karatekas. We know that a black belt is not just a simple accessory: it symbolises the beginning of a true personal journey in karate. Each belt we embroider represents the perseverance, dedication and passion of each practitioner, which is why we treat them as authentic works of art. We adapt to each of our customers’ needs and desires to make them a reality, taking care of every detail with the excellence that sets us apart.
When the embroidery is done in Japan, in the factory itself, the belt becomes a unique and exclusive product: the embroidery is part of the artisanal manufacturing process, not added afterwards. Each belt embroidered in Japan is made especially for the customer, respecting the tradition and expertise that characterise Shureido.
Furthermore, at Hajime Karate we offer a wide range of options: a variety of colours, thread types and embroidery styles so that each belt is truly personal and special. We are committed to always offering the highest level of excellence, both in our products and our service.

Choose your belt step by step
We explain how to choose and make your ideal embroidered belt. You can also follow this link for step-by-step guidance throughout the process.
1. Choose the brand of your belt
At Hajime Karate, we work with two leading brands:
Kaiten: German quality with three types of belts at very competitive prices. Finely embroidered kanji characters. Shureido: a global benchmark in karate belts, handcrafted and embroidered in Okinawa, Japan. Ideal for those seeking the utmost excellence.
2. Select the type of fabric
Cotton: strong, matt, does not fray easily, easy to tie.
Satin silk: shiny, elegant but more delicate to the touch.
Natural silk: exclusive to Kaiten, very luxurious, accompanied by a luxury box.
3. Choose the correct size
The standard adult size is 5/290 cm.
If you choose a belt with a special thickness, we recommend adding 10 cm.

How would you like your embroidery?
Embroidery options
-
Factory embroidery (Japan): the belt is embroidered before sewing, leaving the reverse side clean. Highest quality craftsmanship (approximately 3 months waiting time).
-
Embroidered in Europe: the finished belt is embroidered using Japanese machines in Germany. Fast turnaround (15-20 days) and excellent results, although the kanji characters are finer.
What type of embroidery should you choose?
-
Capital Latin letters: classic and legible.
-
Latin script in cursive (“Script”): elegant connected writing.
-
Japanese kanji: to express profound concepts.
-
Katakana: para transcribir nombres fonéticamente al japonés.
Our Japanese staff will advise you to ensure that the translation and calligraphy accurately reflect your wishes.
What to embroider and where?
-
Estilo de Karate en la punta de la etiqueta y nombre en la otra punta (opción más habitual).
-
Other combinations: phrases, various names, Karate values, etc. You decide!
Thickness and width of the belt
-
Standard thickness: width 4.2 cm, very easy to handle. 8 seams in Kaiten and 11 in Shureido.
-
Special thickness: width 4.6 cm or customised. More body, tips pointing upwards, ideal for experienced karatekas.
See here the difference between the various thicknesses of karate belts.
Practical advice
-
For thicker belts or long embroidery, check the space carefully so that the embroidery is visible and not hidden by the knot.
Colours and types of thread
Previously, Shureido’s classic yellow-orange thread was predominant. Today, you can choose from many colours: white, silver, red, metallic gold, and more.
Choose the colour that best expresses your personality on the tatami!
