Description

The bokken is a wooden katana, also called bokuto. Its use became popular in the Muromachi period (1336-1600) when warriors began to use it in the art of dueling rather than on the battlefield. It is currently used in Iaijutsu or Kenjutsu, documented in the 17th century. Kenjutsu is a technique of Kobujutsu and is the origin of Kendo. It is a must in Kata training. The most popular material is red oak or white oak.
