Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: All our tools are sold as collector’s items and may not be used or carried as weapons.

Handmade in Okinawa, Japan. It has agrip rope on the handle. Octagonalshaped

*NOTE: The sais are coated with a black varnish to protect the product. It is a perishable coating that flakes off with use and fades over time. But at no time is this a product defect. It is simply a bath of black dye that protects it, especially in transport (as it is a handmade product that we import from Okinawa), and that will fall off with use. Therefore, receiving this product with parts on which this varnish has fallen off will not be grounds for return under any circumstances.

How to preserve the sais after each use:

  • Wipe them well with a dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture on the product.
  • Apply a little oil on the sais.
  • Remove excess oil with a soft cloth.

Sais History

A Japanese SAI, also known as “SAI Juko” or “SAI Ki”, is a type of traditional Japanese tool used in martial arts such as Kobudo and Ninjutsu. “SAI” translates as “point” or “stab”, and is a percussion and defence tool originally designed to block and deflect attacks from swords or other implements.

The Japanese UPS consists of a metal rod, usually made of iron or steel, with a length of approximately 50 to 60 centimetres. It has a short, wide blade at one end, which is used for blocking or striking, and a long, straight handle at the other end. Some variants of the SAI may have one or two additional spikes on the sides of the hilt, which can be used to trap or deflect enemy weapons.

The SAI is a versatile tool that allows you to block and deflect attacks, as well as perform blunt strikes and joint checks in close combat. Its compact design and balance provide good manoeuvrability and ease of use.

Today, Japanese SAI is mainly used in traditional martial arts practice and martial arts exhibitions.
